The Buffalo Bills already bolstered their pass rush this offseason with a veteran addition.
They brought in Joey Bosa, the former Chargers star. But as is his brand, Bosa is already injured, with a calf problem keeping him out of OTAs.
In light of that news, SI’s Gilberto Manzano suggests the Bills should make another move.
He wants Buffalo to sign free agent pass rusher Za’Darius Smith.
“Smith’s best days are behind him, but he proved last season with the Detroit Lions that he’s still capable of being a reliable rotational player for a Super Bowl contender,” Manzano writes. “The Bills have already added Joey Bosa, but he has struggled to stay healthy in recent seasons and recently injured his calf. Even if Bosa stays healthy when the season arrives, Buffalo still needs depth behind No. 1 edge rusher Gregory Rousseau. Smith, who’s entering his age-33 season, has 69 career sacks in 10 NFL seasons.”

The Bills have a lot of defensive end talent, but Smith could still be a good pickup after spending last season with the Lions.
The Smith career path has gone from four years in Baltimore to three in Green Bay, one in Minnesota, two in Cleveland and finishing last season in Detroit.
He had 9.0 sacks total in 2024 split between the Browns and Lions.
He’s another guy that would benefit, like Bosa, from the strong edge rushing depth in Buffalo that includes the likes of Gregory Rousseau and A.J. Epenesa.
Smith wouldn’t be asked to do so much and could instead focus on making a situational impact.
There’s nothing linking this deal to be close, but some NFL team is going to get a good one when the veteran free agent Smith chooses his next home. Why not Buffalo?
