Bengals’ Trey Hendrickson gets million contract update from Vice President JD Vance

No one was expecting this.

But Vice President JD Vance has an opinion on the Cincinnati Bengals’ possible extension of star pass rusher Trey Hendrickson.

Vance grew up in Middletown, Ohio, less than an hour from where the Bengals play, so he’s followed Cincinnati’s NFL team for a long time.

He joined This Past Weekend Podcast with Theo Von and was eventually asked about Hendrickson.

“Hendrickson is worth it, dude. He’s a generational talent,” Vance said. “It’s very hard to get a guy like that. It’s kind of crazy how, like, I’m a big football fan, but edge rushers have become… It’s almost like where left tackles were 10 or 15 years ago, where everybody just realized there’s this really underpaid position that you gotta have. And so, yeah, I think we’re gonna have to pay Hendrickson.”

Vance, using the royal Bengals ‘we,’ thinks it’s time Hendrickson got paid.

The VP may have a point.

Hendrickson had 17.5 sacks in each of the last two seasons. He’s worth whatever the Bengals can afford to pay him as part of their otherwise brutal tough bridge situation.

The Vice President agrees.

Hendrickson is unlikely to get Myles Garrett’s $40 million per year average.

But he could shoot for $35 million a year to be in the range of Maxx Crosby and Nick Bosa.

Somehow, a deal has to get done to prevent the setup from being more complicated, and Crosby is OK if we just worry about it some other time.
