Ben Shalom launched a fierce attack on Zuffa Boxing, accusing the organization of threatening the structure of British boxing and caring more about shareholder profits than fighters or the sport itself.
The BOXXER promoter contends Zuffa’s long-term model leaves fighters dependent on a single company for title shots while pushing aside the regional belts and promotional rivalry that have sustained the domestic scene.
“I’m disgusted by the organization. I can’t say anything more than being disgusted. They don’t care about boxing. They don’t care about British fighters. They don’t care about the sport. They care about profitability for their shareholders and ripping the sport from this country, changing it, packaging it up and excluding everyone else,” said Shalom to talkSPORT Boxing.
Shalom also challenged the British Boxing Board of Control to “get a backbone” and stand against Zuffa’s plans. He feels the UK government would support the regulator if it does.
He views Zuffa as more than another rival bidding for talent. Shalom maintains its attempt to create a separate boxing ecosystem threatens small-hall shows, independent operators, and the traditional pipeline through area, British, and world titles.
Simon Jordan questioned the timing of the outrage, arguing that the promoter’s voice grew louder only after talent contracted to BOXXER began appearing on other platforms.
Jordan also pointed out that British promoters eagerly welcomed Turki Alalshikh before Alalshikh became involved with Zuffa’s boxing operation.
Shalom insisted contractual disputes remain separate issues to handle through the courts. His larger concern involves the prospect of one entity gaining enough power to determine who receives title shots.
The rhetoric was extreme, but the power struggle underneath it is clear. Zuffa is competing with established promoters for fighters, influence, and control over how championship opportunities are distributed.
