Harry Maguire admitted his winning goal for Manchester United could be his last appearance for the club at Liverpool.
Maguire had not won away at Liverpool during his first six years for United but he ended the club’s longest ever drought at Anfield with an 84th minute winner.
Centre back Maguire is approaching the final eight months of his contract, though his representatives have held discussions about a renewal.
As SunSport revealed, Maguire’s camp are hopeful of striking an agreement for a new deal but the United defender was desperate to make the most of his fifth start for the club at Anfield on Sunday.
“Yeah, the battery’s going, really,” Maguire laughed when asked about the reaction from friends and family.
“Amazing moment. I’ve had some great, great times at this club and some big winners.

“Obviously Lyon (in the Europa League quarter-finals last season) and then to get the winner at Anfield it’s a great moment for myself, a great moment for my family.
“It has been tough coming here. I’ve been here seven years now, so it’s been tough for the seven years not getting that win.
“It’s been on my mind a little bit, to be honest. I’m in my last year now, so this could be the last time I played at Anfield for this club.
“So it’s really important that I’ve come here and tick that one off because it has been playing on mind.”
Maguire scored at Anfield in his final season with Leicester City in 2018-19 but that was an equaliser.
The 32-year-old skied a glaring stoppage-time chance to win it in United’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool at Anfield in January, although replays suggested Joshua Zirkzee may have been offside.
“I missed that chance. I still think it was offside,” Maguire chuckled. “I tell everyone it was offside!
“Still would have been nicer to put it in the net and seeing the reaction, but even harder if I had put it in the back of the net, went and wheeled away celebrating (and it was disallowed).”
On his winner, Maguire admitted he belatedly knew he had to share his goal with the United supporters in the Anfield Road End.
Man Utd ratings vs Liverpool
MANCHESTER UNITED secured a famous win away at Liverpool courtesy of a late Harry Maguire header.
The Red Devils had not won at Anfield since 2016, but Ruben Amorim’s bold tactical moves paid off.
Though they did have to rely on a bad day in front of goal for their hosts as both Mo Salah and Cody Gakpo missed sitters.
Whereas down the other end, Bryan Mbeumo scored after less than two minutes with a shot that Georgi Mamardashvili may feel he should have kept out.
Gakpo did get on the scoresheet with one of his many chances as he tapped in almost on the goal-line.
But Man Utd weathered a storm from the Reds and Bruno Fernandes’ brilliant assist allowed Harry Maguire to head home the winner.
Here’s how SunSport’s Samuel Luckhurst rated the Red Devils’ stars.
Maguire charged in the opposite direction and stared down Liverpool fans in the Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand.
“To be honest I didn’t know where I was in the stadium when I put it in,” he said.
“I knew I was onside. I just fancied doing the trademark kneeslide.
“I should have probably gone to Bruno (Fernandes) after the amazing assist he gave me.

“But when you’re in that moment you don’t realise. But after I’d wheeled away to the other end I felt like I needed to celebrate in front of the United fans.
“They’ve been amazing with me throughout my time here. Really special moment for me to give it back to them.”
