Bears trade pitch lands Jets projected million playmaker to help Caleb Williams

The Chicago Bears will look to take a step forward in 2025, as the team is coming off an underwhelming 2024 campaign where they posted a 5-12 record and finished last in the NFC North.

First-year head coach Ben Johnson will try to replicate the same success he had with the Detroit Lions in Chicago. Johnson coordinated one of the league’s most dynamic offenses for three seasons and helped revive the career of quarterback Jared Goff.

Johnson will need a few more playmakers to fully enact his offensive plan with the Bears, and Windy City Gridiron’s Aaron Leming believes general manager Ryan Poles should help out his rookie head coach and his young quarterback Caleb Williams by trading for New York Jets running back Breece Hall.

“Hall is the “cream of the crop” of potential trade targets. There were plenty of pre-draft rumors about him being on the move, but nothing has come to fruition,” Leming wrote.

Hall’s future with the Jets is uncertain, as he is entering the final year of his deal, and New York plans to utilize a running back by committee approach in 2025, which could lead to Hall seeing fewer snaps.

Though the Bears are already paying D’Andre Swift a good amount of money to be the starter in the backfield, the team should look to acquire Hall. The Iowa State product’s dynamic skill set would be a fantastic addition to the offense and take a ton of pressure off Williams. Hall has totaled over 1,300 scrimmage yards in each of the last two seasons.

There are some risks involved with trading for Hall, as he will hit free agency next offseason, and his efficiency has dipped every year since his rookie campaign in 2022. However, the Bears must surround Williams with the best talent possible to see if he truly is their franchise quarterback, so acquiring Hall to be a contributor in the rushing and passing game would be an excellent move.
