New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka is generating some interest as a potential head coach.
Coming off his third year as the Giants offensive coordinator, Kafka is expected to interview with the Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints for their head coach vacancies.
According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, those interviews will both take place Thursday.
A Chicago native and Northwestern alum, Kafka played in the NFL for five seasons after he was a fourth-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles.
He was a graduate assistant at Northwestern in 2016 and began his NFL coaching career with the Kansas City Chiefs as an offensive quality control coach (2017).
Kafka moved up the latter in Kansas City quickly, taking on roles as the quarterbacks coach (2018-2021) and passing game coordinator (2020-2021) for Patrick Mahomes.
The Giants hired Kafka in 2022 as the offensive coordinator after Brian Daboll was named head coach. Kafka added assistant head coach to his duties in 2024.
The 37-year-old has plenty of ties to Chicago and to Bears general manager Ryan Poles, who was working in the Chiefs front office when Kafka arrived to Kansas City. They both left in 2022 to take their current roles.
Meanwhile, the Saints are looking to find a replacement for Dennis Allen, who was fired in the middle of the season. They are coming off a 5-12 record and fourth-place finish in the NFC South.
It was their worst record since going 3-13 in 2005, and it was the first time they finished in fourth place since 2008 — when they astoundingly had an 8-8 record.
