The Chicago Bears could be looking for a running back early in the draft. However, if Ashton Jeanty is not available when the Bears are on the clock, they could trade back.
Jeanty is the best running back in the draft class, but there may be a significant gap between where he is picked and the next best running back, Omarion Hampton. AthlonSports’ Luke Easterling predicted the Bears would trade the 10th overall pick to the Seattle Seahawks and select Hampton at 18th overall.
“After narrowly losing out on Ashton Jeanty in the top 10, the Bears move down and regroup, adding another second-round pick and still landing a dual-threat back who can be their featured playmaker on all three downs,” wrote Easterling. “Hampton would help balance the offense and take pressure off Caleb Williams.”
Easterling predicted the Bears would add the 50th overall pick in a trade with the Seahawks. In his mock draft, the Seahawks used the pick on Will Campbell. Moving back to land Hampton and an extra pick in the second-round would be a great move for Ryan Poles.
Hampton could fill a similar role as Jahmyr Gibbs did for Ben Johnson in Detroit. Hampton would allow the Bears to recreate the effect David Montgomery and Gibbs had in Detroit. Last season, he ran for 1,600 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Hampton had 2,000 scrimmage yards and scored 17 total touchdowns. He was named a Second-Team Associated Press All-American and was First-Team All-ACC.
