The Chicago Bears are looking for their next head coach after firing Matt Eberflus during the season. However, an NFL insider has revealed that there are two legitimate candidates.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz revealed on The Herd with Colin Cowherd that the Bears’ search for a new head coach is a “two horse race.”

“The Chicago job, and I haven’t said this publically, is a two horse race between Mike McCarthy and Ben Johnson. I think if Brian Flores goes in and ‘wows’ them, he is still in that mix, but right now I think McCarthy and I think Ben Johnson are the two leading candidates for Chicago.”

Both coaches are highly qualified, but McCarthy has more head coaching experience in the NFL. In fact, the Bears saw firsthand what he could do with a young quarterback when he was the head coach of the Green Bay Packers with a young Aaron Rodgers. McCarthy was fired by the Packers in 2018 and spent the last five seasons with the Cowboys.

The Cowboys had three 12-win seasons with McCarthy and he won a Super Bowl with the Packers. Meanwhile, Johnson is the hottest name on the market for what he has done to the Detroit Lions offense. He is regarded as one of the most creative offensive minds in the NFL.

Both coaches being offensive coaches speaks to what the Bears may be looking for. Johnson helped revive Jared Goff’s career and McCarthy helped develop Aaron Rodgers into one of the best players in the history of the NFL. Either player would be an asset in making Caleb Williams a superstar.
