Bayern Munich star Tom Bischof forced to undergo emergency surgery and ruled out indefinitely

TOM BISCHOF has been ruled out indefinitely after being forced to undergo surgery at short notice.

The Bayern Munich star was rushed into the procedure for his appendix.

Bischof, 20, only joined Bayern in June after moving to the club on a free transfer from TSG Hoffenheim.

He made his first appearance for the Bundesliga champions during the Club World Cup against Benfica.

The midfielder also made a substitute appearance in the 2-1 win over VfB Stuttgart in the DFL-Supercup.

Former Premier League stars Harry Kane and Luis Diaz netted to put Bayern in control before Jamie Leweling’s late consolation.

However, Bischof will now miss the start of the German league season after undergoing surgery.

Bayern have confirmed that he has no return date set and will be out of indefinitely.

A statement read: “FC Bayern will be without Tom Bischof for the foreseeable future.

“The German record champions’ 20-year-old midfielder had to undergo surgery on his appendix at short notice, so he won’t be available for the Bundesliga opener against RB Leipzig on Friday.”

Bayern take on RB Leipzig in the first game of their Bundesliga defence.

The match will take place at the Allianz Arena at 7.30pm as they attempt to land back-to-back titles.

Manager Vincent Kompany appeared not to know about Bischof’s surgery during his pre-match press conference.

After being asked about his squad, he said: “We have four experienced players and two talented youngsters in attack.

“We also have Rapha Guerreiro and Tom Bischof, who can play in an attacking role.

“Manuel Neuer won’t be playing up front (laughs). I don’t like playing in a sacrificial role.

“No matter what happens, we want to attack.

“We have a lot of people working on transfers. My job is to make sure we win tomorrow.”
