THE extraordinary reason why Bayern Munich have been banned from wearing their famous home jerseys in the Champions League has been revealed.
Harry Kane and Co have noticeably worn their second strips in Europe’s premier competition this term.
Uefa imposed a ban on the Bavarians from wearing their red kits at the Allianz Arena.
Now, BILD has explained what their reasoning was, with modifications expected before Bayern are allowed to wear this season’s home kit again.
According to the German publication, Uefa have taken umbrage to the dark numbers on the red jersey, which they claim do not offer enough contrast for viewers.
This is believed to violate the visibility regulations.
To wear their jersey in the future, they will have to adapt it with white numbers and names.
In matches so far in the Champions League, Bayern have worn either black or a beige retro top with the old club crest.
On Wednesday, the Germans travel to Scotland where they will face off against Celtic in the Champions League playoffs.
And they will not wear their home kit despite there being no clash in colours.
Celtic coach Brendan Rodgers warned Munich on Saturday: “I have no doubt at all that we can hurt Bayern. We have shown at every level that we are capable of scoring goals.”
The Scottish giants are unbeaten in 16 games at home this campaign, including four in the Champions League.
And they’ve already seen off German opposition this term – defeating RB Leipzig 3-1 at Celtic Park.
Bayern legend Thomas Muller has already warned fans of the atmosphere that awaits them.
He said: “Anyone who underestimates the Scots has never experienced them at Celtic Park. This atmosphere is amazing; it will be a real highlight.
“And after that, either Leverkusen or Atlético Madrid would be waiting for us. So put your beer on ice, February will definitely be an exciting football month.”
