TENNIS star Destanee Aiava received an apology from a fan that body shamed her on social media.

The 24-year-old is hoping to make it into this year’s Australian Open and has made the final round of qualifying.

In a shocking now-deleted post, a fan penned a vile tweet, claiming she “needed to lose some weight to get more quick on her feet.”

Aiava hit back and replied: “Good job triggering my ED [eating disorder].”

“Hey Destanee. I was rooting for you only and I have been following your matches for the last 2-3 years. It was just out of concern and nothing else.

“I am extremely sorry if it did hurt you, love your game and you as a person.”

Aiava then responded, writing: “Thank you for your apology.”

The remarks directed at her came after she went viral online for wearing the same pink dress that Maria Sharapova wore back at the 2012 US Open in her win yesterday.

She continued with the vintage fashion today, pulling out a dress worn by Ana Ivanovic at the 2010 US Open.

Aiava, who is the world No198, has never made it beyond the first round of a Grand Slam.

She is a former wonderkid, having earned a wildcard into the 2017 Australian Open at the age of 16.

It made her the first player born in the 21st century to play at a Grand Slam.
