Athletics’ Jacob Wilson sets MLB shortstop record with 111th consecutive game without an error

Jacob Wilson is still perfect.

Wilson and the Athletics beat the Boston Red Sox 4-3 on Sunday afternoon at Fenway Park, which actually gave them their first series win since mid-June. Wilson didn’t commit a single error in the contest, either, something he’s now done for 111 consecutive games. That set a new Major League Baseball record for a shortstop.

Baltimore Orioles shortstop Mike Bordick held the previous record of 110 games without an error back in 2002. Wilson’s last error was back on July 6, 2025. He had five plays in the field in Sunday’s win. One of them he even pulled off a catch after colliding with teammate Jeff McNeil while both were trying to track down the ball.

By comparison, Robbie Grossman went 440 games without an error to set the all-time MLB record for a position player. That streak ended in 2022.

“It was a special day for me, but at the end of the day, we got our first series win in a long time against a great opponent,” Wilson said, via MLB.com. “We’ve got to keep that ball rolling.”

Wilson, now in his third season in the league, holds a .270 batting average with 36 RBI and seven home runs. The 24-year-old picked up his first All-Star nod last season.

The Athletics rallied back on Sunday to grab the win, thanks to a huge RBI double from Max Muncy in the final inning. Jonah Heim only tied the game up in the eighth inning, too, after an RBI double of his own.

That gave the Athletics their second straight win, and pushed them to 47-71 on the year. It also snapped a stretch in which they had lost 12 consecutive series dating back well over a month. The Red Sox, after losing their nine-game win streak on Saturday, sit at third in the AL East race with a 64-53 record.
