Rumours, speculation and reports have followed surrounding the player going on strike, tapping up, legal ramifications and big fall outs.

But what is clear is no club have offered the money Newcastle value him at and that really should be the end of the matter. Someone – whether it’s Isak himself or, more likely, his advisors – has had a mare in all of this and handled the situation terribly to undo his iconic status and burn bridges at the club.

Newcastle have also tried to recruit a replacement but nothing has transpired thus far. Though reports of Watkins being a target could be interesting come the conclusion of this one….
