Aston Martin F1 tech chief Cardile finally allowed to start after Ferrari dispute

Former Ferrari F1 technical director Enrico Cardile has started his role as Aston Martin’s chief technical officer after lengthy legal proceedings in Italy.

Cardile was announced as Aston’s latest key technical signing in July 2024, reporting into team principal and CEO Andy Cowell.

Ferrari held Cardile to a full year of gardening leave, but then initiated legal proceedings in Italy at the Court of Modena when it felt Cardile had violated his non-compete clause and started engaging with his new employer before the end of his gardening leave period.

In April the court upheld Ferrari’s claims, making Aston Martin wait for its new signing, but that legal process has now been resolved. On Monday, Aston Martin officially acknowledged its key capture has started in his role as CTO at its new Silverstone headquarters.

“We are pleased that a resolution has been found and that Enrico can move forward with the team as we look to 2026 and beyond as our Chief Technical Officer, leading our design and technical functions at the AMR Technology Campus,” an Aston Martin spokesperson confirmed to Autosport.

Cardile has joined forces at Silverstone with design guru Adrian Newey, who started in April as the team’s managing technical partner.

The long-time Ferrari veteran was originally slated to oversee technical director Dan Fallows, but Fallows was removed from his position in April.
