Ashton Jeanty predicted to go early in first round of NFL Draft to rising AFC team

Ashton Jeanty predicted to go early in first round of NFL Draft to rising AFC team

Ashton Jeanty is one of the most exciting offensive prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft.

With many teams needing an upgrade at running back, Jeanty should be in high demand come April. One of the most running back-needy teams in the league is the Las Vegas Raiders, who own the sixth pick in the first round.

Mike Renner of CBS Sports recently published his newest mock draft and Renner has the Raiders going with Jeanty at No. 6. Regarding Jeanty’s potential fit in Vegas, Renner offered the following:

They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. Well, Pete Carroll isn’t going to stop prioritizing the running back position just because he took a year away from the NFL. Ashton Jeanty, the best running back prospect since at least Bijan Robinson, immediately gives the Raiders a formidable rushing attack.

As Renner mentioned, new Raiders head coach Pete Carroll has usually had a reliable running back in his career. The coach rode Marshawn Lynch for years in Seattle and then drafted Kenneth Walker III in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

If the Raiders indeed want to draft a running back, there’s likely no better option than Jeanty, who led the FBS with 2,601 rushing yards and 29 scores in 2024.

After that legendary performance, Jeanty finished 2nd in Heisman Trophy voting behind only Travis Hunter.

Overall, Jeanty played in 40 games over three seasons with Boise State. During that time, the running back accumulated 4,769 yards and 50 rushing touchdowns to go along with 80 receptions for 862 yards and six scores.

Jeanty demonstrates an elite playmaking ability and often requires multiple defenders to bring him down. The running back has elite speed to go along with his overwhelming power and earned the highest grade among all running backs at the combine.

Running back is definitely a huge need for the Raiders. Las Vegas gained the fewest rushing yards of any team in 2024 and the only addition to the unit this offseason has been veteran Raheem Mostert.

Mostert is a solid veteran, but the running back has dealt with several injuries in his career and will soon turn 33. While Mostert shouldn’t be relied upon at this point, the veteran could form a nice duo with Jeanty.

The Raiders have plenty of other needs that could be addressed with their first-round pick, but Jeanty could have the largest instant impact.
