The potential opportunity would place Jermall (34-0, 23 KOs) back in a title fight despite limited activity in recent years. The 35-year-old returned to the ring last May after a two-year absence and stopped Thomas LaManna, yet that appearance remains his only fight in the past 10 months and just his second outing since 2023.

Even with that inactivity, Charlo is currently listed #3 in the WBA’s super middleweight rankings, a position that keeps him within reach of a title fight if negotiations with Resendiz move forward.

Resendiz (16-2, 11 KOs), 27, captured the WBA interim title last year in May with a 12-round split decision win over Caleb Plant and would enter the fight as the younger and more active fighter. The WBA upgraded Resendiz to full 168-lb champion on January 1, 2026.

While Resendiz is not widely seen as the division’s leading name at 168 pounds, the Mexican titleholder has remained busy and comes in with the biggest win of his career.

Charlo spent years as one of the most recognizable champions at middleweight before moving up in weight. The long gaps between his fights, however, have left questions about how active he plans to remain as he approaches his mid-thirties.

For Resendiz, a fight against a former champion with Jermall’s name recognition could bring added attention to his first title defense. For Charlo, the matchup would represent a chance to return quickly to a world title stage after spending long stretches outside the ring.
