Arizona Cardinals deemed best fit for million AFC defensive star on trade block

The Arizona Cardinals have made plenty of defensive additions over the last two offseasons — but that doesn’t mean they’re done.

Following the season-ending injury to cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting, the Cardinals now find themselves in need of immediate help in the secondary. That’s why CBS Sports’ Brad Crawford believes a proven veteran like Jalen Ramsey could be an ideal fit in Arizona.

“After losing Sean Murphy-Bunting to a season-ending injury, the Cardinals must acquire immediate assistance in the secondary,” Crawford wrote. “They drafted rookies Will Johnson and Denzel Burke from Michigan and Ohio State, respectively. Ramsey could help those guys develop, along with second-year defensive back Max Melton. Perhaps Arizona could dangle a wide receiver and draft compensation as trade bait to Miami.”

While Crawford listed the Cardinals as a potential destination, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler recently reported the Dolphins are “engaged in talks with several teams” regarding Ramsey’s services. According to Fowler, the Los Angeles Rams, Dallas Cowboys, and Washington Commanders are among the teams currently involved in discussions.

Ramsey is under contract through 2028 and carries a guaranteed $24.3 million salary for 2025 as part of a three-year, $72.3 million extension he signed in November. That price tag may limit trade partners — but his six Pro Bowl selections and three All-Pro honors make him one of the most accomplished defensive backs on the market.

Despite the financials, his experience and physicality would bring immediate value to any secondary — particularly one like Arizona’s that is now relying heavily on young corners.

As the post–June 1 trade window nears, the Cardinals could be a team to monitor.
