Andy Murray and wife lose over £350,000 on post-tennis career side business

SIR ANDY Murray and his wife’s hotel business has posted six-figure losses for the second year running.

The tennis legend, 37, bought the 15-room hotel near his Perthshire hometown for almost £2million in 2013.

It has become the venue for several family celebrations and Sir Andy, along with partner Kim, have been renovating the luxury venue for much of the past year since his retirement from tennis at the Paris Olympics in the summer.

Under their ownership the hotel has won several awards, including a Michelin key.

It was also named the best hotel in Scotland at the AA Hospitality Awards for 2024.

Cromlix, near Sir Andy’s hometown of Dunblane, reopened in March 2023 following a three-month refurbishment programme overseen by Kim.

The couple have continued to put money into the business, including bold plans to open a new restaurant within it.

They have carried out several works around the property and plan to build a wellness cottage and add more bedrooms.

Last year the company, Cromlix LLP, posted losses of £919,572.

And the business behind the hotel has reported a loss of £369,045 for the year to March 31, 2024.

The figures were revealed in new accounts filed with Companies House.

Cromlix last reported a profit in 2022, with a figure of £416,442 recorded.

Cash reserves for the company are listed at £242,535.

That’s an increase from £142,943 this time last year, but they stood at £1.1m two years ago.

The estate’s net liabilities went up from £1.4m to £1.8m over the year.

In another move hoping to make money, Cromlix launched its own gin which it will serve in its own bar.

Kim, 37, said: “I have to admit I really enjoyed the blind tasting stage of this process and I’m so pleased with the end product.

“The bottle is a work of art and the new ‘Perfect Serve’ cocktail is top of my list to try on my next visit.”

A spokesperson for Cromlix said: “Cromlix had another exceptional twelve months in 2024 following the hotel’s total refurbishment the previous year. The hotel continues to enjoy high occupancy rates throughout the year and a busy restaurant and events business.

“Cromlix was also the recipient of a number of high profile accolades including a MICHELIN key (MICHELIN Guide 2024), AA Hotel of the Year Scotland 2024 and Independent Hotel of the Year in the Scottish Excellence Awards 2024.

“There has been continued investment throughout 2024 which will not only drive continued growth of the business, but future-proof it as it expands against the many challenges facing the hospitality industry.

“Cromlix is a thriving, independent Scottish business, employing over 70 people mostly from the Stirling area, and has exciting plans for the next 12-18 months including building a new restaurant and kitchen, four new luxury bedroom suites and a Wellness Cabin in the hotel’s 34 acres of grounds.”
