Analyst thinks one NFC team could still sign Packers legend Aaron Rodgers

On Friday, there was an update on the Aaron Rodgers free agency saga — sort of.

The former Green Bay Packers star quarterback visited with the Pittsburgh Steelers at their facility for several hours. While he left without agreeing to a deal, it was reported that the meeting went well.

It is still anyone’s guess which NFL team Rodgers will end up signing with and when it will actually happen.

Earlier this week, the Minnesota Vikings, one of the three teams linked to Rodgers in free agency and the team he reportedly prefers to end up with, decided to not pursue the future Hall of Famer and are instead moving forward with J.J. McCarthy as their QB1. But Vikings beat reporter Ben Goessling feels there’s still a slim chance the team could sign him later this offseason.

With Aaron Rodgers not signing a deal with the @steelers today, this “drama” could drag out into the summer.@BenGoessling wrote how if Rodgers is still available in the summer, he wouldn’t rule out the @Vikings bringing him in on a cheap deal.

McCarthy, the No. 10 pick in last year’s NFL draft out of the University of Michigan, missed all of 2024 with a meniscus injury. He sat and watched as Sam Darnold put together a surprisingly excellent year and led Minnesota to the brink of the NFC’s best record while making the Pro Bowl.

Minnesota would seem to present Rodgers with the best opportunity to end his storied career on a more positive note after two dismal seasons with the New York Jets. He missed virtually all of his first season with New York due to a torn Achilles, and he missed the playoffs in 2024 as New York won just five games, two fewer than it won in 2023.
