New York Giants starting quarterback Russell Wilson will bring a feeling of stability and resume of production to Big Blue that’s been lacking since the day Eli Manning announced his retirement from the NFL.
And while Wilson isn’t the same quarterback he was when he won a Super Bowl for the Pittsburgh Steelers, he’s still an upgrade over the misfits the Giants fielded under center over the last couple of seasons.
When Wilson signed with New York this offseason, it came with a sense that he could flip a one-year deal into a multi-year stint with the Giants, but the 2025 NFL Draft changed that outlook. The selection of Jaxson Dart in the first round signaled a reality that Wilson is, in fact, a one-year starter in New York, one season after holding that same role in Pittsburgh for the Steelers.

At 36 years old, Wilson is now in that phase of his career that all top athletes struggle with: the end is close.

As a result, Bleacher Report recently declared Father Time as Russell Wilson’s toughest opponent in 2025 and beyond.
“That and the constant reminder the team traded back into the first round for Jaxson Dart,” Brad Gagnon wrote.
It’s true that Dart will serve as a constant reminder that Wilson’s time as the Giants’ starter is a week-to-week proposition. There’s no doubt that coach Brian Daboll will suggest otherwise, instead championing the strategy that Dart will have a redshirt season behind Wilson and Jameis Winston.
But make no mistake: once the Giants lose a few games in a row, the calls for Jaxson Dart will grow louder, and the reality that Wilson was never a long-term option will become crystal clear. It’s not a matter of if Wilson will be supplanted by Dart in 2025. Instead, it’s a matter of when.
