Alex Marquez has successfully completed surgery following his accident during last weekend’s Dutch Grand Prix at Assen.
The Gresini Ducati rider, who is second in the MotoGP championship, fractured his left hand after colliding with Pedro Acosta’s KTM on lap six of Sunday’s race.
Marquez’s Gresini team posted on social media that his injury had been addressed as planned, with an announcement expected this week over whether he can contest the next round which is Germany on 11-13 July.
“The surgical procedure for the subcapital fracture of the second metacarpal of the left hand was successfully completed. Further updated on @alexmarquez73 recovery will follow in the next days,” Gresini posted.
In other injury-related news, Luca Marini will be back on his factory Honda for a two-day private test at Brno this week – just one month after his injury at Suzuka.
Marini travelled to Japan at the end of May for a two-day test with Honda’s official endurance team, which was preparing for the Suzuka 8 Hours in early August.

Yet the Italian crashed at high speed in Suzuka’s ultra-fast Turn 1, sustaining serious injuries.
Marini was hospitalised in Japan for 10 days with a pneumothorax and several contusions that initially raised serious concerns.
However, his recovery has progressed remarkably well, and this Tuesday – just 33 days after the crash – he will be back in action at what will be a private test for Honda and Yamaha only.
Marini’s team-mate Joan Mir was originally slated to join the test but his participation is now uncertain following a heavy crash, involving Fermin Aldeguer’s fallen Gresini Ducati, at the Dutch Grand Prix.
On Monday, Mir underwent a CT scan that ruled out a clavicle fracture. But due to the severity of the impact and the associated pain, doctors have advised him to rest for at least the next 24 hours.
Factory rider Alex Rins and Pramac rider Miguel Oliveira will represent Yamaha at the Brno test.
