AC MILAN have made a shock bid for Liverpool defender Joe Gomez.

And that could pave the way for the Reds to snap up Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.

Gomez has emerged as a surprise late target for Italian giants Milan just one day after starring in Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Arsenal.

The Serie A outfit have made no secret of their love for English players, having signed the likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Kyle Walker, Fikayo Tomori and Tammy Abraham in recent windows.

New Milan boss Max Allegri is eager for late reinforcements after losing his opening game of the season to newly-promoted Cremonese – who are signing Leicester legend Jamie Vardy.

And Sky Sports claims Milan have now launched a bid for Gomez as they look to seal a deal on deadline day.

Liverpool are ready to green-light the versatile centre-back’s exit.

But they are reluctant to let Gomez leave until they have completed a deal for a replacement in Palace star and England star Guehi.

The defender is in the final year of his Selhurst Park contract and scored in yesterday’s 3-0 victory at Aston Villa.

Liverpool have offered £35m for the ex-Chelsea academy ace.

But they are yet to hear back from Palace, who are in the market to replace Guehi with two signings.

Should the Eagles reject Liverpool’s bid, Guehi is likely to leave London on a free transfer next summer.

That could also put a stop to Gomez’s AC Milan switch, with Liverpool only boasting youngster Giovanni Leoni as back-up for Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.

The latter has also been tipped for a free exit next summer to Real Madrid.

And Arne Slot is keen to ensure his side are not left light at the back.
