Mason has been getting a lot of attention lately with the way he fights at 135. Fans are starting to notice him more, and it’s not coming from talking. It’s coming from what he’s doing in the ring. Mason’s style is a fan magnet. He’s having the same effect Gennadiy Golovkin had early on, pulling people in with the way he fights and the kind of battles he brings.
Keyshawn had been the young guy getting most of that attention. Now there’s someone else right there with him, and you could see it in how hard he was pushing to make the fight on the spot.
“I want to fight you this year,” Keyshawn said as he stood in front of Mason. “Can we make it happen this year?”
The WBO lightweight champion, Mason, stayed composed, didn’t raise his voice, and didn’t get pulled into the tone of the exchange. He has made it clear he’s open to the fight, but the timing has to make sense with what he’s doing at 135.
Keyshawn kept trying to move it forward in real time. At one point, he called Mason’s side during the exchange and pushed for a yes or no answer while still standing in front of him, trying to force a decision on the spot.
“I’m pulling teeth trying to get him to fight me,” Keyshawn said as the exchange continued.
Mason didn’t give him that. He didn’t shut the door, but he didn’t step into the timeline either, keeping everything where it is rather than letting it get set in that moment.
Both fighters have said they would take the fight. That hasn’t been the issue. The question is when it happens and who gets to decide that.
Keyshawn spoke like someone trying to lock in his next move. Mason handled it like someone who doesn’t need to rush into one. That difference carried the exchange, and it’s still there now.
