Aaron Rodgers predicted to make free agency decision by signing with dysfunctional franchise

Aaron Rodgers predicted to make free agency decision by signing with dysfunctional franchise

It seems Aaron Rodgers’ free agency decision is down to two teams, the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants. According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Rodgers visited the Steelers facility on Friday and talked to head coach Mike Tomlin, offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, and general manager Omar Khan.

Rodgers left his visit in Pittsburgh without signing a deal, and according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the veteran quarterback and the Steelers have had contract parameters in place for weeks.

Though Pittsburgh is the favorite to land Rodgers, Yardbarker’s Bruce Ewing predicts the future Hall of Famer will ditch the Steelers and sign with the Giants.

“Even if the Giants take Ward or Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders in the draft, the team could bring them along slowly, letting them learn under Rodgers the way Rodgers learned under Brett Favre in Green Bay,” Ewing wrote.

The Giants signed Jameis Winston to a two-year deal on Friday, and though it may seem like the team is now out on Rodgers, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo stated that the signing of Winston doesn’t change anything about New York’s pursuit of the four-time league MVP.

“This does not change the Giants’ pursuit of Aaron Rodgers or alter any other possible QB routes. Just getting a veteran QB under contract in a QB room that only had Tommy DeVito coming into the day,” Garafolo tweeted after the Giants signed Winston.

Though signing with the Steelers would give Rodgers his best chance of winning a Super Bowl in the final years of his legendary career, the Giants are just a competent quarterback away from being much improved in 2025. The team boasts a versatile and exciting wide receiver duo in Malik Nabers and Darius Slayton, an offensive-mind head coach who has had success in the past in Brian Daboll, and a promising defense that added defensive lineman Chauncey Golston, cornerback Paulson Adebo, and safety Jevon Holland in free agency.

Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen are on the hot seat heading into the 2025 season. Though Rodgers is getting older and wouldn’t be a long-term answer at quarterback, the Giants should look to steal the 10-time Pro Bowl signal-caller away from the Steelers and see if he can elevate them into an NFC playoff contender this year.
