Aaron Rodgers’ free agency decision could be imminent, especially with the New York Giants solving their quarterback issue by signing Russell Wilson on Tuesday. Rodgers is the top signal-caller available on the market, and his NFL future is arguably the biggest storyline of the offseason.

Rodgers has three options to choose from, which are signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers, retiring, or waiting for another quarterback job to open due to injury, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

“It seems that for Rodgers, it’s going to be the Pittsburgh Steelers,” Rapoport said on Good Morning Football. “Certainly, the team he visited, certainly the leader in the clubhouse for Aaron Rodgers. Or he’s gonna say, ‘you know what, I’m not gonna play this year,’ or ‘I’m not gonna play right now.’ That’s still up in the air.”

Though Rodgers could opt for retirement or wait till the summer to sign with a quarterback-needy team, The 33rd Team’s Jeff Diamond predicts Rodgers will choose the scenario that many expect and sign with the Steelers.

Rodgers surely sees Pittsburgh as a team with a good supporting cast of skill players on offense after they traded for Seattle wide receiver DK Metcalf to pair him with George Pickens. They also have a solid tight end in Pat Freiermuth.

Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin believes he can effectively deal with Rodgers, which will convince Owner Art Rooney and GM Omar Khan to green-light this high-profile signing.

The Steelers lost Wilson and Justin Fields this offseason, as Wilson signed with the Giants, as previously stated, and Fields joined the other New York team in the Jets.

Though Wilson and Fields weren’t awful last year, neither were game-changers and didn’t elevate Pittsburgh’s offense. Rodgers is getting older and didn’t look great in 2024, but the four-time NFL MVP would be an upgrade at the quarterback position for the Steelers and could flourish in a talented offense with a dynamic receiver duo in DK Metcalf and George Pickens and a proven offensive coordinator in Arthur Smith.

Rodgers visited Pittsburgh last Friday to meet with head coach Mike Tomlin, general manager Omar Khan, and Smith at the franchise’s facility. According to Rapoport, the meeting went well, and with both sides having contract parameters in place for weeks, it feels inevitable that Aaron Rodgers will eventually sign a deal to be the Steelers’ starting quarterback in 2025.
