Amidst the reports, rumors and speculation, Aaron Rodgers remains undecided when it comes to his intentions for 2025.
Two weeks ago, the New York Jets’ starting quarterback hinted that he was open to returning next season.
“I think so, yeah,” said Rodgers about his desire to continue his playing career beyond 2024.
While the four-time NFL MVP is under contract with the Jets for one more season, last week, The Athletic reported that Rodgers wanted to play next year, but only if it was with a team other than New York.
With the Jets at 3-8 overall, and Rodgers showing his age, the report also suggested that owner Woody Johnson has soured on the future Hall-of-Fame field general and doesn’t necessarily want him back.
Making his recurring Tuesday appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers fiercely denied the reported rumors and was non-committal on his future in Green & White.
“As far as my future goes, I haven’t told anybody, in my life, that I wanna play in 2025 and not on the Jets. That’s 100 percent false. I actually said the opposite — I said that I’m going to wait and see what happens at the end of the season. And if they want me back and what happens with Brick [interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich], and what happens with the offensive staff, and obviously the GM. There’s a lotta things that are out of my control when it comes to that,” said Rodgers.
While the wins have been missing, all has not been lost for Rodgers, who will turn 41 years old in December.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time in New York. Obviously, we haven’t had the success that we’ve all wanted to have, but I’ve made some great friendships on the team. I’ve enjoyed living in Jersey. I’ve enjoyed time in the city. I’ve enjoyed getting to know the fans. I came here to win here, so I’m not jumping off ship. I don’t even know if I wanna play yet, but New York would be my first option,” said Rodgers.
Whether it’s the organizational instability, his physical suffering or both, Rodgers seems like someone looking to move on, possibly into retirement. He didn’t come here to be part of a rebuild and he’s been forced to fight through multiple nagging injuries.
Although there is a scenario where it makes sense for Rodgers and the Jets to run it back, a mutual parting of ways seems more likely at this point.
