Today, Trevor McCumby (28-1, 21 KOs) returns to the ring after suffering his first defeat against  Caleb Plant last September on the Canelo Alvarez-Edgar Berlanga undercard. He is primed and ready to challenge the young lion, Diego Pacheco (23-0, 18 KOs).

This will be his toughest  opponent to date. Plant had that designation, but it’s been superseded by Pacheco due to his  age, size, and skill. At 6’4 and with an arm length of 79 inches, his sheer size would pose a difficult challenge for anyone. Pacheco holds a 5-inch reach advantage over McCumby.

“Man, it’s going to be a great fight. My hands are going to be raised at the end. I can’t tell you what’s going to happen. How he’s going to come out, how I’m going to come out, because you know we’re… we’re just going to go out and see what he’s bringing. But, you know, I had the hardest training camp in my whole life. Caleb Plant fight, I couldn’t say that. This one, I can finally tell everybody I have no excuses after this fight. Before the Plant fight, I couldn’t say that  I really did everything I could. I’ve been in the Word, talking to God every day. I’ve, you know, obviously put in the hard work that’s necessary. I’ve been doing my breath work.

“I’ve been just very spiritual. So, I know that coming into this fight, I’m the best version of myself,” said McCumby when asked about his fight with Pacheco.

In his match against Plant, he was very competitive, scoring a knockdown and winning the early  rounds. His conditioning did not allow him to finish the fight, and he eventually succumbed to Plant’s offensive attack. He’s looking to get back on the winning path.

At yesterday’s weigh-in, he looked in phenomenal shape. His enhanced physique can be attributed to new strength and conditioning coach Rachel Donaire, wife of former four-division champion Nonito Donaire. A  revitalized McCumby is dangerous and could make for a difficult night for Pacheco if he isn’t fully prepared for a hungry fighter who is prepared for everything.

“I’m an action-packed fighter, and that’s what I do. I want the fans to get their money’s worth and make sure they go home and say, man, that guy’s a warrior and he’s a really great fighter, and I would love to watch him again,” said McCumby of his fighting style.

McCumby is prepared to go out on his shield; he knows the importance of this fight and how it can propel his career with a victory. Regardless of the outcome, McCumby has demonstrated a warrior spirit. In his fight against Plant at the T-Mobile Arena, many remember that fight as the fight of the night due to both fighters’ back-and-forth action. This should be no different. Both  Pacheco and McCumby like to fight in the pocket and should make for an action-packed fight.
