A Disciplined Emanuel Navarrete Shows His Potential Against Sugar Nunez

Navarrete was physically stronger and relentless against Nunez. He didn’t show any signs of slowing down. Outworking and outlanding Nunez throughout the fight. Vaquero outlanded Sugar by 96 punches, landing 236 total punches to Nunez’s 140. What caused Eduardo’s right eye to close was the relentless punishment he was taking from Emanuel, who landed 47.8 percent of his power punches (Compubox).

“It was nearly a little over two months of intense work. I think what key was was the sparring I utilized. It was a very specific work we carried out, preparing and training for a style like Sugar’s. I believe that was key,” said Navarrete of his ability to be able to have so much success against Nunez.

El Vaquero has had performances in the past where he did not meet expectations, which can be attributed to a lack of discipline and a nutritional regimen. In his last match, he struggled to make weight against Charly Suarez and had to re-weigh.

A fight that ended controversially due to a cut having been ruled as caused by a headbutt when it had actually been caused by a punch. Navarrete’s victory over Suarez was overturned to a no-contest. In that fight, Emanuel started strong but began to fade, losing rounds to Suarez.

This fight was a complete contrast to his previous fight in that he looked physically prepared. “The fight was an affirmation of what was accomplished in training, but you all only see the fight, you forget about the months of training, the abstinence, and…of the first time I diet. It’s complicated, to go do physical work after training, it’s complicated. I think for today…for at least, the preparation for this fight I took it out as a true professional,” said El Vaquero of his training.

Navarrete admitted to not having dieted in the past and not having a traditional training camp; if he did so, he would be that much greater, and it showed in this fight.

As for what’s on the horizon, Navarrete said, “We just got the results of a new stage as a fighter. We did new things that gave us great results. Something spectacular, something very good is coming. We’re in the anteroom of a super impressive fight. Something that truly interests me is the card of “Mexico versus the World,” Which was announced by Turki Alalshikh recently.

Who wouldn’t want to be there as a fighter? Who wouldn’t want to be there on that night? It would be something incredible to support that night with Canelo [Alvarez]. It would be something incredible.”

For the time being, El Vaquero will take some time off to rest and spend time with his family. He’ll make a decision as to what he’ll do in the near future, he also added a potential fight with Suarez is still pending and could happen as well.
