Ryan Garcia isn’t receiving any sympathy from fans on social media following his comments about his intention to exit Golden Boy Promotions after one fight. In a rant, Garcia claims Oscar De La Hoya doesn’t “respect” and never thought he was a “good fighter.”
Ryan’s Respect Claims
Kingry points out that he felt mistreated by De La Hoya after his loss to Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero last May. The loss was a one-sided one with Garcia seemingly not even trying to win after being dropped in round two. There was no fight in Ryan. De La Hoya had to have noted that.
“Oscar doesn’t respect me. I don’t think he ever thought I was a good fighter. He has no trust or faith in me,” Ryan Garcia said to Ring Magazine about the issues he’s having with promoter Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy.
That comment from Garcia may be accurate. De La Hoya might not have respect in him, but he has reasons for that. The way that Ryan has acted in the last year is alien to the way Oscar was when he was fighting.

“Great fighters lose, and they come back, rebuild, and get better. Look at all the times he lost and came back,” said Kingry.
Garcia’s Delusional Comparisons
Ryan sounds delusional here, comparing himself to the fighter Oscar De La Hoya was during his career. The comparison reveals both ignorance about Oscar’s achievements and a twisted belief about his talent.
“I have one more fight left with him, and that’s it. I want to move on,” said Garcia.
Other than Turki Alalshikh, where will Ryan Garcia go if he does leave the Golden Boy fold? He’s not shown the kind of talent to win world titles at 140 or 147. His loss to Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero showed clearly his limitations as a fighter.
If Ryan does sign with Turki or Top Rank, he couldn’t be protected forever. They would eventually expect him to be able to fight for world titles and win them. The 26-year-old Garcia lacks the talent to capture a world title in any weight class.
Bleak Post-Golden Boy Future
Even if Ryan did return to 140, who would he beat? He couldn’t defeat belt-holders like Gary Antuanne Russell, Richardson Hitchins, or Subriel Matias. At 147, it would be worse. Garcia already lost to Rolly on May 2nd. One could tell from watching that fight that Ryan would lose the rematch in the same way.
WBO champion Brian Norman Jr. would blow out Garcia. He’d have a chance against WBC champion Mario Barrios. He’d be viewed as a joke if he targeted Barrios or the IBF title that is about to be fought over by Lewis Crocker and Paddy Donovan.
