Moses Itauma vs. Dillian Whyte PPV Needs Major Undercard Upgrade: Fans Demand Competitive Fights for August 16th DAZN Event

Moses Itauma vs. Dillian Whyte PPV Needs Major Undercard Upgrade: Fans Demand Competitive Fights for August 16th DAZN Event

The Moses Itauma vs. Dillian Whyte card on August 16th needs a big undercard fight to attract fans to make them want to order it on DAZN PPV. Itauma-Itauma is viewed by fans as a mismatch between the shopworn 37-year-old Whyte and the heavily hyped Itauma (12-0, 10 KOs).

Needed: A Strong Co-Feature

The co-feature on the card, WBA featherweight champion Nick Ball defending against the inexperienced super bantamweight Sam Goodman, is an embarrassingly poor fight. It doesn’t belong on a PPV card, especially one with a $49.99 price tag. That fight should be on the prelim card because no one asked for it, and it’s a mismatch. Even on the prelim card, Ball-Goodman would be poor.

What the card needs is a good co-feature fight that will interest fans in the U.S and the UK. The fundamental problem is that Whyte is viewed by fans as a washed-up fighter, just hanging around for paydays. He’s not capable of beating any of the top five-level fightes, and the only reason he’s getting this fight is to ensure Itauma isn’t exposed as a hype job.

The chief support fight needs to be a good enough one to make fans overlook the awful main event fight between Itauma and Whyte. That fight does not sell. If this were 2016, it might interest fans, but not in 2025. Dillian is an old relic from the past and shouldn’t be fighting on a PPV card unless he’s buried deep, out of sight, where human eyes can’t see him.

Parker, Kabayel for Itauma?

Ideally, Turki Alalshikh should swap out Whyte for Joseph Parker or Agit Kabayel for Itauma’s opponent. That would solve a lot of the problems. Dump Whyte and use either of those two as Itauma’s opponent. If Moses is supposed to be the next Mike Tyson, he should be able to beat Parker and Kabayel.

Complete Card

  • Moses Itauma vs. Dillian Whyte
  • Nick Ball vs. Sam Goodman
  • Raymond Ford vs. Abraham Nova
  • Filip Hrgovic vs. David Adeleye
  • Hayato Tsutsumi vs. Qais Ashfaq

Raymond Ford was supposed to be facing Anthony Cacace, but he pulled out of the card. Veteran Abraham Nova was brought in as the replacement. That’s not a great fight. Nova has a 1-2-1 record in his last four fights.
