Tim Bradley: Gervonta Davis “Mentally Checked Out” – Seeking Retirement Paydays with Pacquiao/Jake Paul

Tim Bradley says Gervonta Davis has “mentally checked out” and is just looking for a few paydays before retiring. He states that Gervonta (30-0-1, 28 KOs) won’t fight Shakur Stevenson for any amount of money that Turki Alalshikh offers him.

Davis Eyeing Pacquiao, Paul Paydays

Davis will instead choose Manny Pacquiao, Jake Paul, or someone else “to get that bag’ before retiring as a wealthy millionaire. Tim believes that Gervonta is “sick of the sport” after 12 years in the pro ranks, and wants to do other things with his life.

“Tank is done. He’s hung them up. Shoes off, get the back, put a plaque up. He’s done. Tank is done,” said Tim Bradley to Fight Hub TV’s channel about his belief that Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis has mentally checked out on his career, and is hanging around to get a few more paydays in circus fights before retiring.

Ryan Garcia Payday’s Impact

It’s been obvious for the last two years that Tank Davis has mentally checked out of the game and no longer has his head in the sport. The huge payday Gervonta got for his fight against Ryan Garcia in 2023, estimated at $30 million, took away his hunger and drive for the sport. Since then, Davis has fought just twice, beating Frank Martin and battling to a controversial 12-round majority draw against Lamont Roach. Tank appeared to be totally disengaged and unmotivated during the Roach fight.

No Shakur Fight for Tank

“Tank has checked out mentally. He is gone mentally. Tank is looking for the big bag, the Jake Paul, Pacquiao, and ‘I’ll see you later.’ Tank is saying he’s not going to fight Shakur Stevenson at all. I don’t care how much money Turki offers. Give him four Lamborghinis or whatever. Tank isn’t taking that fight,” said Bradley.

You can’t blame Tank for not wanting to fight a runner like Shakur, because he knows he would have to chase him around the ring for 12 rounds. If Stevenson used his hit-and-not-get-hit approach, it would come down to whether the judges favor that amateur point-scoring method or the harder, cleaner shots from Tank Davis.

As such, even if Davis won, Shakur would muddy the water, claiming he was robbed, and his sycophantic fans would back him. Davis doesn’t need that mess. He can make big bank fighting Ryan Garcia, Manny Pacquiao, and Jake Paul on his retirement tour.

“If he gets in the ring and he’s not all the way focused, he’s going to get beat by Manny Pacquiao if they’re going to do it,” said Bradley. “I think he’s done. It’s the issues outside of the ring, and he wants to change. He has a lot on his mind about what he wants to do, and he’s kind of sick of the sport of boxing.”

Getting beaten by a legend like Pacquiao wouldn’t bother Gervonta nearly as much as it would if he lost to Shakur. At least with Manny, Davis could say that he lost against a legend. The money would be huge for Tank, and he could use the millions to find solace, buying a huge mansion in Holmby Hills, California.

“If I’m Lamont Roach, I’m keeping my momentum,” said Bradley. “‘You ain’t ready, son? It’s all good. You handle your business, you do what you got to do, but I need that money. I need that gravy. I need that opportunity. I should have been the champion right now. However, I’ll let you have that. That’s fine, but I’m moving on to something bigger and better. So, yeah, the Shakur Stevenson fight. I don’t care who it is, but someone in the top 10 or another champion at 135 lbs or even at 130 lbs. Absolutely.’”

Roach will get a nice payday against Shakur as long as Turki Alalshikh is involved, but it’s not going to be a massive $10 million payday. Stevenson’s purse for his fight against William Zepeda on July 12th was a reported $7 million. A fight between Shakur and Roach wouldn’t attract as much buzz as the Zepeda fight because Lamont is a defensive fighter with a Jerry-esque style. He’s not someone that the boxing public will be excited to see Stevenson fight compared to other fighters in the 135 or 140-lb division.
