Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis Re-Signs with Matchroom & DAZN: Aiming for Stardom at 154 Pounds

Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis has re-upped with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom, signing a multi-fight extension with them and DAZN. The former unified welterweight champion Ennis (34-0, 30 KOs) is hopeful that he can become a star now that he’s moving up to 154 to take on the higher-level opposition division.

Matchroom’s Ennis Superstar Plan

Hearn says that Boots will be a “different beast” at junior middleweight. Fans would like to see Ennis, 28, begin fighting better opposition so he can build himself into a true star. The three fights that Jaron has had since inking with Matchroom in April 2024 have been disappointing.

Ennis should have moved up to 154 last year rather than wasting his time with his superficial goal of becoming the undisputed welterweight champion. There was no point in pursuing that time-wasting goal, given the belt-holders were no-names that the boxing public wasn’t familiar with. Even if Boots had eventually captured all four belts, people wouldn’t have noticed.

“They’re willing to do whatever it takes to make me a superstar. I’m ready to get going at 154 pounds, and I am hunting the big names and the belts. Now it’s time to shut everybody up,” said Jaron Ennis, talking about his contract extension with Matchroom.

Tune-Ups for Boots Ennis

Boots is already shooting himself in the foot by choosing to take two tune-up fights at 154 instead of diving straight in. Those tune-ups are likely to chew up a year of Ennis’ career, which means he’ll be 29 or 30 before he finally begins fighting the talented guys in the division.

These are the fighters that Hearn needs to match Ennis against:

Sebastian Fundora
Vergil Ortiz Jr
Israil Madrimov
Bakhram Murtazaliev
Serhii Bohachuk
Xander Zayas
Terence Crawford
Jorge Garcia
Erickson Lubin
Yoenis Tellez
Keith Thurman
Tim Tszyu

“I’m so excited to see Boots set about the 154-lb division, where you are going to see a different beast and his full arsenal on display, said Eddie Hearn.
