Boxing Results: Manny Flores and Jorge Chavez Fight to a Draw

Super Bantamweight southpaw ‘Manny Flores (20-1-1, 16 KOs) fought to a 10-round majority draw with Mexico’s Jorge Chavez (14-0-1, 8 KOs) on Thursday night for the WBA Continental Americas Gold title at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California.

In the first round, Flores chased down Chavez until the final minute, when Chavez finally landed a right on the chin of Flores. In the second and third rounds, it went back and forth as to who was in charge.

In the fourth round, after half a minute, southpaw Flores hurt Chavez with a right uppercut on the chin. Again, with a little over a minute, he did it again in another close round. In the fifth round, Flores had another good round, out-landing Chavez, except for Chavez landing a solid left hook in the final minute to the chin of Flores.

In the sixth round, Chavez came back to take a solid round, even switching to southpaw at times. In the seventh round, it was all Chavez landing punch after punch. In the eighth round, Chavez continued to get the best of Flores with his hand speed and foot movement.

In the ninth round, it was Flores taking over and dominating Chavez for the first time. In the tenth and final round, with the decision up for grabs, Flores had the best of it, cutting Chavez on the right eyebrow midway.

The scores were 97-93 Chavez, 95-95, and 95-95. Thomas Taylor was the referee.

In the co-feature, junior middleweight Jordan ‘The Patriot’ Panthen (11-1, 9 KOs) lost a 10-round majority decision to Farid ‘Shogun’ Ngoga (11-1, 6 KOs) in an all-action fight for the WBA America’s Continental Gold title.

In the second round, it was all action with Ngoga turning southpaw and back after losing the first round, landing a flurry of punches for half a round before Panthen took over. In the third through the sixth rounds, the action continued, each taking turns landing punches.

In the seventh round, Panthen in the final minute would back up to get a breather, when he would go on the attack, and back would come Ngoga. In the ninth round, Panthen’s right eyebrow was cut by a clash of heads midway. In the tenth and final round, it was a battle of nutrition, and the decision could go either way in an all-action fight.

The scores were 95-95, 96-94, and 97-93. Ray Corona was the referee.

Middleweight Fabian Guzman (8-0, 7 KOs) defeated Bryan Arregui (11-6, 7 KOs) by an eight-round unanimous decision.

The scores were 80-72, 79-73, 78-74. Rudy Barragan was the referee.

Super featherweight Lenardo ‘Bazooka’ Sanchez (9-0, 7 KOs) knocked out Abraham Valdez (14-2, 9 KOs) at 2:16 of the fourth round of a scheduled six rounds. Ray Corona was the referee.
