TOTTENHAM are interested in signing Illia Zabarnyi from Bournemouth, after PSG had their £55million offer rejected.
The defender was a crucial part of Andoni Ireola’s backline that formed one of the stingiest defences in the Premier League last term.
The North London outfit have “registered their interest” in the Cherries’ star defender, according to talkSPORT.
The addition Zabarnyi would take Spurs’ total number of centre-back signings to four for this transfer window having already brought in Kevin Danso, Luka Vuskovic and Kota Takai.
Out of his 78 Premier League appearances for the Cherries, Zabarnyi has started 75 of them.
He was in the starting XI for all 36 of his Premier League appearances last season.
Zabarnyi’s partner at the back, Dean Huijsen, has already left this summer in a £50m move to Real Madrid.
It means Bournemouth are under no pressure to sell – hence their decision to reject the Champions League winners’ bid earlier in the window.
He has had back-to-back successful campaigns at the Vitality Stadium, including being awarded the Bournemouth Supporters’ Player of the Season in the 2023/24 season.
Zabarnyi joined from FC Dynamo Kyiv in 2023, for a fee of around £24m.
So far this summer, recently appointed Spurs manager Thomas Frank has overseen a spend of about £122m on transfers, including the signing of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham for £55m.
Spurs are also interested in Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White, however there has since been controversy.
A legal complaint against Tottenham was logged by Forest, for what they believe was an illegal move to obtain the 25-year-old, including suspicions of a breach of Gibbs-White’s confidential £60m release clause.
It is not yet clear what the outcome will be for the England midfielder.
