Was Tszyu Truly Blinded? Fundora Questions Validity of Tszyu’s Post-Fight Explanation

Tim Tszyu continued today with his theme of blaming his loss to Sebastian Fundora on suffering a cut last year. At today’s final press conference, Tszyu  (25-2, 18 KOs) said he couldn’t concentrate because he was worried about the cut, which was leaking blood throughout the final ten rounds.

Tszyu has the chance to prove that he’s the better fighter in his rematch against WBC junior middleweight champion Fundora (22-1-1, 14 KOs) on July 19th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

It’s an important fight for the career of the former WBO 154-lb champion Tszyu, because he’s lost two out of his last three fights. He likely would have lost all three if he hadn’t chosen the lower-level fighter Joey Spencer as a confidence-booster.

“Physically and mentally, to a certain point. The fact that I was distracted. When coming back to my corner, instead of thinking about the fight, I was thinking about the cut. That always presents challenges, especially when you’re fighting at the top level,” said Tim Tszyu during today’s final press conference for his rematch against Sebastian Fundora on Saturday.

Fundora Denies Tszyu’s Claims

Fundora doesn’t think too much about Tszyu still cooking up excuses a year later, trying to explain away his loss to impressionable fans and media members. “Because he fought the whole fight. If there was such a big problem, the corner would have stopped the fight,” said Fundora.

Fundora says Tszyu’s corner would have stopped the fight if the cut was really a problem for him. He believes Tim was able to see him clearly. Fundora thinks Tszyu is attempting to paper over the real reason he lost without confronting the truth about the root cause.

“I couldn’t see clearly. That’s why the rematch is here. There are a lot of questions to be answered from both sides. Not just my side. I’m about fighting until the end. That means you’re going to get knocked out. If my corner had stopped it, I would have [been upset] with them,” said Tszyu.
