Terence Crawford’s Future Fights: Will “Bud” Continue After Canelo Alvarez Bout on September 13th?

Terence Crawford’s Future Fights: Will “Bud” Continue After Canelo Alvarez Bout on September 13th?

Terence Crawford told Turki Alalshikh that he wants to fight “one or two” additional fights for him if he defeats Canelo Alvarez on September 13th. Turki says Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) initially said to him that his fight with undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo will be his “last” of his career. He’s since changed his mind, but it’ll depend on whether he’s victorious or not.

Canelo vs. Crawford Rematch Money

It’s understandable why Crawford would want to continue fighting for a little while longer if he beats Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs). The money Terence, 37, will make in a rematch with Canelo would be huge. That’s obviously the fight that he would be banking on happening.

It’s unlikely that Crawford would want to take on any of the super middleweight contenders or fighters from the 175-lb division. Beating a 35-year-old Canelo is possible due to his poor stamina, low punch output, and short height. But it would be a lot tougher for Crawford to attempt to do the same thing against the top 168 and 175-lb fighters.

“When he signed the fight for the Canelo fight, he said, ‘This is the last fight in my career, Turki. I want to do it right,’ and we signed it,” said Turki Alalshikh to Thaboxingvoice when asked if there’s a possibility of Terence Crawford fighting David Benavidez if he’s victorious against Canelo Alvarez in September.

Crawford recognizes that he can make a lot of money fighting Canelo a second time. So, he’ll definitely come back for one or two more fights, depending on what Turki is offering him. There are excellent possibilities for Crawford even if he can’t get the rematch. If he moves back down to 154, he can fight Vergil Ortiz Jr., Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, Sebastian Fundora or Tim Tszyu.

Turki Alalshikh’s Crawford Revelation

“I saw him in Riyadh. He said he’s enjoying it and wants to do one or two fights if he beats Canelo,” Turki said about Crawford. “I think it’s tough to beat Canelo, especially when you go two weights more, but Crawford is a legend. Let’s see what this fight will bring to us.”
