Eubank Jr. vs. Benn Rematch Off: Ring, Riyadh Season, Sela Pull Out

Eubank Jr. vs. Benn Rematch Off: Ring, Riyadh Season, Sela Pull Out

The Ring, Riyadh Season, and Sela are reportedly no longer involved in the Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Conor Benn rematch. They will not be involved if there is a second fight.

Eubank Jr. (35-3, 25 KOs) has been dragging his feet about the rematch, which was supposed to have taken place on September 20th. It’s believed the weight and rehydration issues have been the stumbling block for him.

Eubank Jr. vs. Benn Rematch Off

Eubank Jr. went through torture to get down to the 160-lb limit for the first fight with the welterweight Benn on April 26th. The double whammy of a 10-lb rehydration clause made it even more of a nightmare for him.

Fans are overwhelmingly glad that the Eubank Jr.-Benn rematch is off, as they felt it was a pointless fight. Eubank Jr. had proven he was the better fighter of the two last April, defeating Benn by a 12-round unanimous decision by the scores 116-112, 116-112, and 116-112. It wasn’t a close enough fight to create any demand for a rematch.

Health Risks: Eubank Weight Cut

Benn looked outclassed. A second fight would have been risky for Eubank Jr.’s health due to the weight stipulations. At this point in the 35-year-old Eubank Jr’s career, he’s a solid super middleweight, and it’s crazy for him to be draining down to fight at 160 and then put himself through hell dealing with a 10-lb rehydration clause. The combination of the two would put his life at risk.

With the rematch against Benn now apparently off, it frees up Eubank Jr., 35, to be available for a possible fight against Canelo Alvarez in February 2026. The Mexican star hasn’t said who he’ll fight on that date, because he still has his title defense against Terence Crawford to take care of on September 13th.

Hearn Wants Shakur vs. Benn

Conor Benn’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, already floated the idea today of him fighting Shakur Stevenson next. He likes that fight, and Shakur was in favor of the idea as well.

Sources have informed The Ring that both Riyadh Season and Sela are no longer involved in the rematch between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn.
