Brian Norman Jr. Vows to Make Devin Haney Fight His Fight in Welterweight Showdown

Brian Norman Jr. Vows to Make Devin Haney Fight His Fight in Welterweight Showdown

Brian Norman Jr. isn’t worried about Devin Haney turning their fight into a Tom and Jerry contest on November 22nd in Riyadh. The WBO welterweight champion Norman Jr. (28-0, 22 KOs) says this is his “show,” and Haney (32-0, 15 KOs) will be forced to be “fighting my fight.”

Will Turki Bench Haney?

If Haney turns the fight into a track meet, Turki Alalshikh may regret having chosen him as the opponent for Norman Jr. to defend his WBO title against on November 22nd.

Despite his last two subpar performances, Haney is still popular enough to generate interest in the fight. However, it still could be a fight that receives a backlash from fans if Devin chooses to run around the ring like he did in his last fight on May 2nd.

Turki is giving Haney another chance to redeem himself. That’s admirable on his part, but if Devin is knocked out or spends the entire fight on the run, Turki will need to make a tough decision whether it’s worthwhile to continue using the battleworn fighter for future events. There are other young go-getters in the welterweight division who are hungry, willing to work hard, and willing to get into the trenches for firefights.

Norman Jr. Dismisses Haney

“I’m not worried about what Devin Haney is trying to do. I’m not fighting Devin Haney. He’s fighting me. This is my show. I’m about to do my thing and we’re fighting my fight,” said Brian Norman Jr. to Boxing News channel when asked about Devin Haney’s defensive style of fighting.

It’s Haney’s first fight at the full weight of 147 pounds in the welterweight division. He’s going up against what many people believe is the biggest puncher in the division in Norman Jr.

Few fans believe Haney will be willing to stand and fight Brian Jr. on November 22nd, as he appears to have been mentally affected by his loss last year against Ryan Garcia.

Fans Frustrated by Haney’s Style

Devin showed little inclination to stand and engage in his last fight against Jose Ramirez on May 2nd. Throughout the fight, the former two-division world champion Haney moved around, changing directions frequently, looking afraid of being caught by Ramirez.

It was a frustrating fight for fans to watch, as they’d expected to be entertained by ordering the event on DAZN PPV. Many of them complained about it, feeling they hadn’t gotten their money’s worth with Haney running, and the main event being lackluster as well.
