Heinze taking over Arsenal – EXCLUSIVE

A snarling, touchline-prowling, vamos-shouting, referee-confronting Argentinian.

Arsenal have added a wild animal to their backroom staff in Gabriel Heinze – the former Manchester United defender recruited by old Paris-Saint Germain pal Mikel Arteta.

Gunners boss Arteta is used to shaking up his backroom staff with the likes of Steve Round and Andreas Georgson departing in previous years, while Heinze has come in this summer to replace assistant Carlos Cuesta after his appointment as manager at Serie A’s Parma.

And it is a trend that has swept through Arsenal’s title rivals too. Arne Slot has brought in Giovanni van Bronckhorst as an assistant at Liverpool after Prem glory last term, while Jurgen Klopp’s old Anfield No.2 Pepijn Lijnders has teamed up with six-time champion Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

Sir Alex Ferguson was the master of this with SEVEN different right-hand men by his side during trophy-laden 27-year tenure at Man United, citing the constant need for fresh ideas and new voices to maintain his unrivalled winning mentality at Old Trafford.

Arteta is hoping his latest shake up will finally deliver success after finishing as Prem runners up for three years on the spin.

While Cuesta, 29, was young, talented but inexperienced, 47-year-old Heinze brings with him a glittering playing career – winning the Prem with United in 2007 and La Liga with Real Madrid in 2008 – and a reputation as a hard-nosed, win-crazed Rottweiler.
