David Benavidez says he thinks Canelo Alvarez would want $300 million to fight him. He believes that Turki Alalshikh might give him that to face him because it would be such a big fight.
Canelo vs. Benavidez: $300M?
The Mexican star Canelo is reportedly receiving $150 million to fight Terence Crawford on September 13th. That’s not even a fight that interests much of the U.S fan base. Benavidez is a fight that fans nationwide want to see.
Canelo (63-2-2, 39 KOs) has a three-fight deal with Turki. His next fight after his defense against Crawford is expected to be against one of these three fighters: Hamzah Sheeraz, Conor Benn, or Chris Eubank Jr. It would be another one that the U.S fans wouldn’t have much interest in.
“I wouldn’t go down to 168, but it’s possible now that all promoters are working together,” said David Benavidez to Secondsout when asked if he believes a fight with Canelo Alvarez can happen as part of his three-fight deal with Turki Alalshikh. “What does he want? Turki might give him what he wants.”
Benavidez is the fight that Turki Alalshikh should have made for Canelo for September, rather than using the 38-year-old Crawford and shoving that fight down the throats of fans.
Turki Alalshikh: Will He Pay?
Turki might not be willing to meet Canelo’s asking price for a fight against Benavidez, because he doesn’t seem as interested in his career as he was with Crawford. He seems to like fighters with defensive styles, which explains why he chooses to use Shakur Stevenson and Devin Haney for his events. Crawford isn’t as quite as defensive as those fighters, but it’s close.
“Then I’m going to get what I want after I beat the s*** out of him and take his belts,” said Benavidez about Canelo. “He probably wants $300 million or something like that. He might get it. I’m focused on Anthony Yarde on November 22nd.”
