Lamborghini reveals new Temerario GT3 car at Goodwood Festival of Speed

Lamborghini has taken the wraps off the new Temerario GT3 contender, which is due to enter competition next season.

The replacement for the Huracan GT3 was unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on Friday and represents “the first competition model entirely designed and developed by Lamborghini” at its in-house Squadra Corse motorsport department, according to the Italian manufacturer.

This is in reference to the joint development of the Huracan alongside the Audi R8 GT3 in 2015, as both automakers are owned by the Volkswagen group.

Ten years on, Audi has yet to announce a road-going successor to the R8 and delivered the last GT3 race version in November 2024 as it winds down its customer sport operations.

The Temerario racer carries over the four-litre twin-turbo V8 of the road-going car launched last year, whereas the Huracan GT3 was powered by a 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated V10.

The three-motor hybrid system of the street car has been removed in line with GT3 regulations, which do not allow energy recovery.

The race engine is rated at 550bhp (dependent on the Balance of Performance), while the internal combustion element of the road car powertrain pushes out 800bhp.

The engine has been “completely recalibrated to deliver maximum performance across a broader rev range,” said Lamborghini.

It explained that the Temerario was “conceived from the outset with a motorsport derivative in mind,” which has “allowed for strategic integration of racing-oriented engineering from the earliest design stages.”

The focus during development was to create a more user-friendly racing car, said Lamborghini chief technical officer Rouven Mohr.

“The Temerario GT3 has been designed with the end user in mind,” explained Mohr.

“Everything has been considered, from the efficiency of the aerodynamics to the power curve and the way in which the team is able to operate the car.

“The car operates in a slightly different area of the performance windows, which are used to balance the cars of different configuration, compared with its predecessor.

“We are confident that it will be competitive in terms of lap time, while also nice to drive in a wide range of conditions.

“The development team has worked hard to ensure the car has a wide operating window and that the teams are better able to work on it.”

This strategy includes a modular approach to the design of the bodywork: the front and rear ends of the body are now single pieces to allow for quick changes in the pitlane.

Lamborghini has confirmed that Podium Advance Technologies, which designed and built the Glickenhaus 007 Le Mans Hypercar, is a development partner in the Temerario project. Previously, Lamborghini worked with Dallara Automobili on the Huracan.

There will be a limited release of Temerario GT3s to customers for next season, with a race debut projected for the Sebring 12 Hours IMSA SportsCar Championship round in March.

GT3 rules dictate that Lamborghini must have 10 cars racing by the end of its first year of homologation. As such, it will make the new car available to customer teams racing in major series in which GT3 machinery is eligible around the world, which is likely to mean IMSA’s GT Daytona Pro class, the DTM and GT World Challenge Europe.

Lamborghini no longer competes in the LMGT3 class of the World Endurance Championship following a decision to withdraw its SC63 LMDh prototype from the championship’s Hypercar class and race the car only in IMSA’s GTP division in 2025.

Lamborghini Squadra Corse built more than 200 Huracan GT3s and won 96 championships.

The first Huracan developed by the organisation, which was established in 2013, came on stream in 2015 before the arrival of the EVO in 2019 and the EVO2 in 2023.

A Lamborghini one-make series based on the Temerario is scheduled to follow one year behind the GT3 and will replace the Huracan Super Trofeo for 2027.
