FANS fear for Nicolas Jackson’s Chelsea future after Enzo Maresca failed to pick him against Fluminense.
Chelsea have boosted their attacking ranks with the signings of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro this summer.
And those two have been preferred by Maresca at the Club World Cup, with Jackson playing just 68 minutes across two matches at the tournament.
Jackson, 24, was left out of the starting line-up for Chelsea’s semi-final clash against Fluminense, with Pedro starting up front.
Former Blue Mikel John Obi feels that is a worrying sign for the striker, and he believes Maresca is sending a message to the striker.
He said on DAZN: “I think that sends a massive message to Jackson.”
Fans are in agreement with Mikel, suggesting Jackson needs to prove himself now he has competition to be the starting striker.
One reacted saying: “A huge message, he’s had two full seasons given to him. It’s time to improve or get out.”
Another added: “Let him fight for the position as simple as that.”
And a third wrote: “I think it’s obvious that Jackson is probably leaving this summer.”
To make matters worse for Jackson his replacement Pedro, took just 18 minutes to score on his first start for the club.
The Brazilian produced a curling strike which found the top corner, though he did not celebrate because it came against his former club.
He added a second just before the hour mark, firing a thunderous shot in off the crossbar.
