CHELSEA have their eyes on the prize as they prepare for their Club World Cup semi-final clash with Fluminense TONIGHT.
The Blues booked their spot in the last four with a 2-1 win over another Brazilian outfit, Palmeiras, last Saturday.
New £60million forward Joao Pedro impressed from the bench as the Brazilian made his first appearance for his new employers, just three days after his switch from Brighton was confirmed.
Chelsea fans are wondering whether they will get to see another new signing for the first time this evening, as Jamie Gittens’ arrival from Borussia Dortmund has now been announced.
SunSport brings you all the details below.
Can Jamie Gittens play for Chelsea in the Club World Cup?
A mid-tournament registration window was open from June 27 to July 3, allowing clubs to add players to their squad lists.
Unlike Joao Pedro, the Gittens deal wasn’t completed before the July 3 registration deadline.
Although Gittens’ arrival came after the window shut, the winger would not have been able to play for the Blues regardless, as he had already represented Dortmund in the Club World Cup this season.
Fans will have to wait until after the tournament in the United States to see their new £52m forward in action.
Gittens’ first opportunity to make his Blues debut will come in their first pre-season friendly on Friday, August 8, against Bayer Leverkusen at Stamford Bridge.
