‘So ridiculous’ – Andy Murray blasts Wimbledon chiefs over controversial decision during Sinner vs Dimitrov

ANDY MURRAY blasted Wimbledon chiefs for their controversial decision midway through Jannik Sinner’s thriller with Grigor Dimitrov.

The British legend, 38, was left baffled and angered as SW19 bosses halted the match for 13 minutes at around 8.30pm to close the roof on Centre Court with the Bulgarian holding a shock two sets to love lead over the world No1.

Murray branded the decision “so ridiculous” as the two players and millions of fans worldwide twiddled their thumbs and waited.

The two-time Wimbledon champion passed the time with an exasperated post on X.

Murray wrote: “So ridiculous to close the roof at this stage of the match.

“At least an hour of light left… well over a set of tennis can still be played… it’s an outdoor tournament!”

Wimbledon bosses may have been fearing a Sinner comeback as the Italian began to find his groove.

Perhaps expecting the match to go well beyond three sets, they made the call to pull the roof over before the sun set over SW19 at 9.17pm.

But, just minutes later, 34-year-old Dimitrov – chasing his first Wimbledon quarter-finals place in 11 years – was left in tears as he suffered a nasty pectoral injury.

The sickening scenes came as he closed out game four of the third set.

Dimitrov drew level at 2-2 after firing down a well-placed 96mph ace.

But he immediately collapsed to the floor in pain, clutching his right armpit and appeared to say “my pec, my pec”.

The No19 seed then went off the court for medical treatment before deciding he could not continue.

When he tearfully emerged back on court to get his bags, he could barely lift his arm to shake the umpire’s hand.

Dimitrov received a standing ovation for his efforts and Roger Federer, the eight-time men’s champion, looked aghast from the Royal Box

It means Dimitrov’s last five appearances at Grand Slams – twice at Wimbledon, the US Open, Australian and French Open – he has had to quit mid-match and takes his tally in majors to ten overall in his career.
