Floyd “Money” Mayweather Sends Roy Jones Jr A Subliminal Message

Floyd “Money” Mayweather Sends Roy Jones Jr A Subliminal Message

Former four-division world champion Roy Jones Jr is accustomed to giving his hot takes about boxers from this era and the previous eras, but apparently boxing icon Floyd “Money” Mayweather (50-0, 27 KOs), felt some type of way when Jones said Mayweather would lose in a particular fantasy matchup.

During the course of his legendary career, Floyd Mayweather defeated 24 fighters who were either current or former world champions. Roy Jones Jr believes a certain boxer who defeated three-quarters of the legendary 1980s Four Kings quartet would beat Mayweather.

Back in the mid-90s to the early 2000s, Roy Jones Jr seemed unbeatable as he earned the position of pound-for-pound king. During the time period in which Roy Jones was boxing’s featured attraction, a young boxer by the name of “Pretty Boy” Floyd Mayweather, was jump-starting his pro  career.

After dominating the super-middleweight and light-heavyweight divisions for the previous nine years, Roy Jones moved up to heavyweight. In his debut, Jones Jr defeated John Ruiz via unanimous decision and won the WBA world heavyweight title.

After his triumphant victory, Roy Jones went back down to light heavyweight, and unfortunately, the iconic boxer showed signs of being on the decline. After Jones faded away, Mayweather changed his name from Pretty Boy to Money, and he became the new face of boxing.

Mayweather took pride in being a boxer who defeated every fighter he stepped inside the ring to face. Recently, Mayweather took offense to Roy Jones picking a boxer to defeat him in an era vs era matchup.

As previously stated, this boxer hold a victory against three-quarters of the legendary Four Kings quartet. He didn’t defeat all four due to the fact that he’s the other twenty-five percent of the group.

During his interview with “All The Smoke Fight” podcast, Roy Jones Jr stated that he believes Sugar Ray Leonard would have beaten Floyd Mayweather Jr.

“Floyd is not as nearly as mean as Sugar was. How is he going to keep him off of him?! Sugar is a Dawg! Just cause his name Sugar don’t mean nothing! Sugar is a Dawg! People don’t give him enough credit for that,” Jones stated.

Roy Jones went on to say, “For me, I like Floyd, and Floyd is cool, but it’s like Floyd daddy didn’t fight that close to Sugar. Sugar kind of did what he wanted to do with Floyd daddy.”

Jones was referring to the bout that took place in September 1978 when Sugar Ray Leonard stopped Floyd Mayweather Sr in the 10th round. Floyd Mayweather Jr wasn’t a fan of the comments made by Roy Jones, and he decided to respond with a subliminal message.

Floyd Mayweather proceeded to post videos of him watching Roy Jones Jr getting knocked out. In the first video in his Instagram story, Mayweather posted the footage of when Tarver connected with a left-hand shot and knocked Jones out in the 2nd round.

The next clip Mayweather watched was from four months later when Glen Johnson knocked Roy Jones out cold in the ninth round. Mayweather continued to sit on his sofa and view the big screen as Danny Green stopped Jones in the first round.

The final lowlight Mayweather viewed was the clip of Enza Maccarinelli knocking Roy Jones Jr out cold in the fourth round. During the posting of these videos, Mayweather didn’t speak, but he was able to send a subliminal message to Roy Jones Jr.

Mayweather’s sarcastic response could have very well added more fuel to the fire. Now the question is, will this become a Mayweather vs Jones Jr social media battle, or could this materialize into a potential exhibition bout?
