Crisis-hit Leicester consider shock move for recently-sacked Championship manager after axing Ruud van Nistelrooy

CHRIS WILDER is now in the frame for a shock return to management with relegated Leicester.

Foxes put Wilder, 57, on their shortlist a fortnight after his Sheffield United exit following May’s Championship play-off final defeat to Sunderland.

And the experienced boss has emerged as a candidate since the split, while his agent’s close ties with Leicester have boosted his chances.

Sean Dyche, 54,  has been a strong favourite for the job but the former Everton chief may be too strong a character for some leading officials at the King Power.

Danny Rohl, 36, who is set to leave troubled Sheffield Wednesday, is another option.

Wilder has a good record at Championship level but his best work has always been at boyhood club United.

He was less successful at Middlesbrough and Watford but is still attractive to any clubs chasing promotion.

Leicester only sacked Ruud van Nistelrooy a week ago despite him overseeing their relegation to the second tier.

The Dutchman managed just four wins in 25 games, losing 18 times.

And former Leicester title winner Marc Albrighton fears his old side could struggle to convince a top manager to join them.

He told SunSport: “Most clubs are prepared for the worst now.

“They sack their manager in the morning and by the afternoon they’ve got someone else in charge.

“But it will be hard for Leicester to get someone in with a potential points deduction hanging over the club.

“Any new manager will be conscious of that and won’t want to commit until they know what they’re dealing with.

“The fans will be expecting an early appointment, given the length of time the board must have known Ruud was going.

“But I wouldn’t be too hasty with a new appointment.

“I’d be really thorough because they MUST get this appointment right.

“They obviously went through two major managerial changes last season, and they won’t want to go through that again.

“They’ll want a manager who is hopefully going to be there for quite a while. So I wouldn’t be rushing too much into it if I was them.”
