Son Heung-min set to snub MLS transfer despite Tottenham captain being ready for new challenge

LOS ANGELES FC look set to miss out on Tottenham’s Son Heung-min — for now.

The MLS club were keen on making the Spurs skipper their big-name replacement for former Arsenal and Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud, 38, who has joined Lille.

But a move to America is unlikely at this stage, meaning the California outfit will have to wait either until January or another 12 months.

Son, who turns 33 on Tuesday, had been open to ending his decade at Spurs this summer, going out on the high of winning the Europa League.

He has a year remaining on his £200,000-a-week contract but a US switch does appeal to him.

The forward is expected to return to training next week for medical checks.

Son will also hold face-to-face talks with new manager Thomas Frank.

The South Korea international has also been targeted by Saudi Pro League clubs and is coveted by his old boss Jose Mourinho at Fenerbahce in Turkey.

It would be a major shock if the North Londoners sold him ahead of their trip to Seoul at the start of August.

Tottenham play a friendly against Newcastle at The Seoul World Cup Stadium on August 3.

Spurs would not let him go on the cheap, though, especially given the vast commercial benefits he brings to the club through his iconic status in his home country.

Meanwhile, new boy Luka Vuskovic will finally join up with Spurs on Saturday.

The Croatia defender was signed for £12million from Hajduk Split in 2023.

But he could not move until the first transfer window following his 18th birthday in February.
