Terence Crawford Body Shot Focus: Canelo Alvarez’s Weakness Explored for Sept 13 Mega-Fight

Terence Crawford Body Shot Focus: Canelo Alvarez’s Weakness Explored for Sept 13 Mega-Fight

In a training clip of Terence Crawford today, he’s seen working with his trainer Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre, focusing on throwing body shots to prepare for his mega-fight against Canelo Alvarez on September 13th. Crawford was loading up with every shot, hitting the body protector his trainer ‘BoMac’ was wearing.

Canelo’s Body Weakness Exposed

This could be a signal that Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) is going to stay in the pocket and target Canelo’s body. That’s an area that some fans believe is a weakness. In his first fight with Gennadiy Golovkin, Canelo looked to the referee for help when he was hit hard to the body, as replays showed, in what wasn’t a low blow.

Crawford doesn’t pack enough power to hurt Canelo (63-2-2, 39 KOs) to his granite rock head. He’s got to focus on targeting his body because that is his most vulnerable area.

Sept 13 Netflix Boxing Event

Canelo will defend his undisputed super middleweight championship against Crawford on September 13th at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The event will be streamed on Netflix, and it’s believed that it could become the most-watched event ever.

It might not be the most interesting fight in the sport’s history, but with 300 million subscribers to Netflix, it could be the most watched. If other big events continue to be shown on the platform, they will likely quickly surpass Canelo-Crawford.

Crawford’s Chance Against Canelo

“He’s got good speed and good footwork. That’s why I do give him a chance,” said Robert Garcia to YSM Sports Media about Terence Crawford having a chance of beating Canelo Alvarez. “In Canelo’s last few fights, he never gives that little extra. He’s just comfortable enough to get the win. He became a businessman. I think that could be something in favor of Crawford.”

Canelo has looked lazy in his last few fights and has not shown the energy or motivation to put in more effort. He’s gotten away with fighting like that because his opposition has been poor fighters with inflated records.

“If he comes out at his best with good forward. Canelo is flat-footed, especially in his last fight against a runner [William Scull],” said Robert about Crawford. “He threw one punch at a time, and didn’t even try to be aggressive to get him into the ropes to throw combinations, to throw four or five punches.”

Canelo looked like he was coasting in his fights against William Scull, Edgar Berlanga, and Jaime Munguia. It was like he was trying to overcome the forces of gravity and not showing any ambition to push himself hard.

“I think at this stage, I am giving Crawford a big chance of pulling it out,” said Garcia.
