Schofield Sr. Dismisses Abdullah Mason Bout: ‘Kid Austin’ Would Destroy Him After Farmer KO

Floyd Schofield Sr. doesn’t see lightweight contender Abdullah Mason as an interesting one for his son, ‘Kid Austin’ Schofield Jr., to take following his first-round knockout win over Tevin Farmer last Saturday night.

Kid Austin Dominates Mason

Schofield Sr. predicts that Floyd Jr. would destroy the unbeaten Top Rank-promoted Mason (19-0, 17 KOs). He points out that Kid Austin already beat Abdullah, 21, in the amateurs. When they sparred as pros, he had to tell his son to go easy on Mason and not hit him too much.

Mason, 22, and Schofield are only a year apart in age, but Floyd seems a lot more advanced as a fighter. He looks a lot more polished in the ring and isn’t making the silly mistakes that we’ve been seeing from Mason.

Floyd Sr. mentions how Mason was getting hit a lot by Yohan Vasquez last November in a fight in which he was dropped twice in the first round by the second-tier super featherweight. He says that Schofield Jr. “hits way harder” than Vasquez, meaning he would do far worse to Mason than dropping him twice.

After the way Schofield annihilated the former IBF super featherweight champion Tevin Farmer (33-9-1, 8 KOs), Abdullah Mason’s promoters at Top Rank aren’t going to match him against Schofield. Mason will be steered away from Schofield to ensure he continues to win.

Schofield Hits Harder, More Accurate

“How? [Abdullah] Mason is a good fighter, but he would get destroyed by Kid [Floyd Schofield],” said Floyd Schofield Sr. to Unbiasedbox2 when told tat a fight between ‘Kid Austin’ Schofield Jr. and Abdullah Mason got a lot more interesting after Floyd’s first round knockout win over Tevin Farmer last Saturday.

With the shots that Abdullah Mason was getting hit with in his recent fights against Jeremia Nakathila and Yohan Vasquez, it’s unlikely that he would last more than a couple of rounds against ‘Kid Austin’ Schofield. Mason leaves himself open when he throws his uppercuts and left hooks. His bread & butter punch is his uppercut, and that’s how he was dropped twice by Vasquez.

“Just look at the facts. Look at when he [Mason] got hit with that other guy [Yohan Vasquez]. ‘Kid’ hits harder than that guy,” said Schofield Sr. “Way more accurate and way more agile. Mason wouldn’t stand a chance. They shared the ring already, and I had to ask Floyd before you hit him too often, work on defense.’”

Abdullah Needs More Seasoning

Mason needs more seasoning before fighting the 22-year-old Schofield because he doesn’t look like he’s near ready to fight this kind of fighter at this early stage of his career.

“We already beat Mason in the amateurs, and then they even have it on film of them two sparring. It ain’t taking nothing away from Mason. He’s a great fighter, but he’s running into the greatest boxer of all time,” said Schofield Sr.
