Boxing Results: Paul Defeats Chavez Jr., Ramirez Outpoints Dorticos in Anaheim Showdown

Cruiserweight Jake ‘The Problem Child’ Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) defeated former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (54-7-1, 34 KOs) by a 10-round unanimous decision in their main event fight at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

In the first four rounds, Paul easily outlanded Chavez, who had landed few punches. In the sixth round, Chavez Jr. finally opened up with some offense in a close round.

In the eighth round’s final minute, Chavez, Jr., landed a right on the chin, followed by a 3-punch combination against Paul, taking the round.

In the ninth round’s final minute, Chavez, Jr. landed a right uppercut, knocking the head of Paul, taking the first round. In the tenth and final round, it went back and forth in a close round, possibly won by Chavez, Jr.

The scores were 99-91, 97-93, and 98-92. Gerard White was the referee.

In the co-main event, WBO world cruiserweight champion Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez (48-1, 30 KOs) beat former IBF World cruiserweight champion Yuniel Dorticos (27-3, 25 KOs) by a 12-round unanimous decision.

In the first six rounds, Ramirez outlanded the heavy-hitting Dorticos in an even fight, with Dorticos warned twice for low blows by referee Ray Corona.

In the seventh round’s final seconds, Ramirez ended with a flurry of punches, taking the round. In the eighth and ninth rounds, Ramirez is outworking the 39-year-old Dorticos, who hasn’t fought in a year. In the tenth round, referee Corona took a point from Dorticos for his third low blow.

In the eleventh round, Ramirez continues outworking Dorticos. In the twelfth and final round, Ramirez ended the fight with his world belt intact.

The scores were 115-112, 115-112, and 117-110.

WBA Lightweight champion Floyd ‘Kid Austin’ Schofield (19-0, 13 KOs) stopped former IBF super featherweight champion southpaw Tevin Farmer (33-9-1, 8 KOs) at 1:18 of the first round of a scheduled 10 rounds.

Half a minute into the first round, Schofield dropped Farmer with a right on the chin for an 8-count from referee Gerard White. Seconds later, a combination right and left again dropped Farmer with a combination on the chin. Then, a flurry of punches had Farmer out on his feet when referee White called a halt.

Julian ‘Hammer Hands’ Rodriguez (24-1 (15) stopped WBC USA welterweight champion Avious Griffin (17-1, 16 KOs) at 2:55 of the tenth and final round.

In the first three rounds, there was little action, with Rodriguez landing more. In the fourth round’s final minute, Griffin rocked Rodriguez with a short right on the chin, buckling his legs.

In the eighth round, Rodriguez ducked low and got hit with a Griffin right on the temple, being dropped for an 8-count from Referee David Sullivan in the first minute of the round.

Halfway through the ninth round, Rodriguez drew blood from the nose of Griffin with a left. In the tenth and final round, in the final seconds, Rodriguez dropped Griffin with a double left hook on the chin, dropping him into the bottom ropes, causing Referee Sullivan to wave it off, as Griffin, trying to get up, dropped to the canvas.

Welterweight Olympian Raul ‘El Cougar’ Curiel (16-0-1, 14 KOs) knocked out Victor ‘Latigo’ Rodriguez (16-1-1, 9 KOs) at 2:09 of the fourth round of a scheduled 10-round eliminator for the WBA welterweight title.

In the first three rounds, Rodriguez outworked Curiel. In the fourth round’s midway point, Curiel dropped Rodriguez with a right uppercut to the chin and body for an 8-count from referee Michael Margado. Seconds later, Curiel landed several more punches, bringing blood from the nose of Rodriguez, having him defenseless, causing referee Margado to call a halt with no complaint from Rodriguez.

Super featherweight Victor Morales (20-1-1, 10 KOs) lost to former WBC silverweight featherweight champion Rene ‘Gemelo’ Alvarado (35-16, 22 KOs) by a 10-round unanimous decision.

The judges’ scores were 99-91, 99-91, and 96-94. Michael Margado was the referee.

Former WBA welterweight champion southpaw Holly ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ Holm (34-2-3, 9 KOs) defeated Yolanda ‘Pitayita’ Guadalupe Vega Ochoa (10-1, 1 KO) by a 10-round unanimous decision.

The judges’ scores were 100-90, 100-90, and 100-90. David Solivan was the referee.

Super bantamweight John ‘Scrappy’ Ramirez (15-1, 9 KOs) defeated southpaw Josue ‘Zurdo’ Jesus Morales (33-19-2, 14 KOs) by an eight-round unanimous decision.

The scores were 80-72, 80-72, and 79-73. Edward Hernandez Sr. was the referee.

Welterweight Joel Iriarte (8-0, 7 KOs) beat Kevin ‘Thunderstorm’ Johnson (12-7, 8 KOs) by an eight-round unanimous decision.

The judges’ scores were 80-72, 79-73, and 78-74. Ray Corona was the referee.

Bantamweight Alexander ‘The Alley Cat’ Gueche (8-0, 5 KOs) beat Vincent ‘The Beast’ Avina (8-2-1, 7 KOs) by an eight-round unanimous decision.

The scores were 80-72, 80-72, and 79-73. Edward Hernandez Sr. was the referee.

Heavyweight Joshua Edwards (3-0, 3 KOs) knocked out Dominicc Hardy (6-4, 4 KOs) in the first round of a scheduled 6-round fight. David Hartman was the referee.
